How markup works

Selling price = cost × (1 + markup). A $20 item with a 75% markup sells for $35. Retail often uses keystone pricing — a 100% markup — which gives a 50% margin before fees.

Remember that platform fees come out of the margin, not the markup. Check the result in a fee calculator before you set the final price.

FAQ

What is keystone pricing?

Keystone pricing means a 100% markup: the selling price is double the cost.

How do I convert markup to margin?

Margin = markup ÷ (100 + markup) × 100. A 50% markup is a 33.3% margin.
